Chamthong/Kangshoi

Chamthong or Kangshoi is a famous food of Manipur comprising a boiled broth dish from fresh vegetables, onion, ginger, garlic, spices etc. This stew is served with rice or fish and is supposed to be consumed piping hot. Chak Hao Kheer

Chak Hao Kheer is a delicious kheer that is prepared on many special occasions in Manipur. Chak hao kheer is a black rice pudding. Manipur produces a large scale of black rice and this black rice kheer is one of the most popular dish not only within the state but amongst the neighbouring states and many parts of India. This black rice is full of healthy fibres, antioxidant rich, proteins and low in calories, which would make a great food to intake for weight-loss and healthy diet. Black rice has very unique flavour and Nutty in taste and texture. Although this grain has similar amount of fiber that of brown rice, but has very distinctive nutty taste and hue lower calorie level. The flavour of this kheer is delicious.

Alu Kangmet

Paknam

Paknam is a type of baked dish which some people refer to as the Manipuri Pizza. There are similarities between the two yet huge differences too. Paknam is made by wrapping the ingredients in yaingangla (turmeric leaf) and then baking it. There are different types of paknam such as besan paknam, kanglayen paknam, nganam(fish paknam), etc. Paknam is famous for its taste and uniqueness. It is easy to prepare and very healthy food. It is also a street food available in most street food stalls. It is considered to be quite a delicacy and is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

Peruk Kangsu

Peruk Kangsu is one of the popular traditional food of Manipur. It is prepared with Peruk a medicinal plant & boiled yellow mutter, boiled potatoes & fermented fish chutney. All the food is Mashed & eaten raw. Using this medicinal plant Manipur have prepare a side dish with soaked roasted pea. Other than peruk, boiled white peas, boiled potato and a chutney of fermented fish. No cooking other than boiling the potato and white peas is required. Just mix all the ingredients and have a bite. It is like a healthy salad. Simply combine all the ingredients and enjoy a bite. You all bear numerous variations in the dish.

Ooti/Utti Thongba

Ooti is a classic vegetarian cuisine of Manipur. This authentic dish is included in every vegetarian or non- vegetarian feast of the Meitei people. This dish is made with green peas & lentils. One of the healthiest Manipur food. It is prepared with soaked lentils with lentils & other spices. Various varieties of this food are available. Highly recommended for health-conscious people. There are different types of Ooti and the names are given based on the ingredients used. However, baking soda is a must ingredients to make these different types of Ooti . Mangal Ooti is made using dried peas and pulses with rice, Ushoi Ooti in which bamboo shoot is the main ingredient and Ooti ashangba, a green colour Ooti made by using wild taro leaves and many green vegetables with broken rice, etc.

Kabok

One of Manipur's indigenous staple food item made from fried or puffed rice is Kabok. Some products are sugar flavored and some are plain. Sugar flavored Kabok is made with sugar cane molasses into various types of shape and size. There are various types of indigenous Kabok products of varied taste. Some of them are Thoiding Kabok, Thoiding Kangshubi, Kabok Aphaba, Akhingba, Kabok Muri, Kabok Khoidum, Chujak Kabok, Kabok Khoibak, Hamei, Thoidingkabok, Sana Kabok, Kabok boon, Phou khoidum, Kabok Akhingba, Lalu (small, medium and Big size) etc. Kabok is one of the main items for religious ritual and ceremonies.
